Below are several suggested itineraries which may help you to get to know the province in more detail:

  • Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos: In the Sierra (the mountains) you will encounter the beauty of the ‘casas encaladas’ (white washed houses), their patios and balconies filled with flowers. This route will lead you to the villages of Arcos de la Frontera, El Bosque, Grazalema, Ubrique, among others.
  • Ruta del Vino: Horses, wine, bulls and flamenco are all important parts of the culture and lifestyles of the people of Cadiz. Finos (sherry wines), amontillados, olorosos, moscateles and manzanillas are all examples of some the wines that share a worldwide fame and that you will be able to taste while on your tour through the towns of Jerez, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar.
  • Ruta del Atlántico: This route takes you to the coast and to our beaches of fine sand and beautiful cliffs. Unlike the other areas of the Spanish coast, we still enjoy a relatively pristine coastal environment. There is still an “undiscovered” touch to the province. Chiclana, Vejer, Zahara de los Atunes, and Tarifa are the main enclaves of the coast.
  • Ruta del Toro: The fighting bulls and the horses that are used in the sport of bullfighting (‘la fiesta nacional’) are bred just inland of us. Don’t forget to visit Jerez, Medina Sidonia, Benalup, and Alcalá de los Gazules were you will find the farms that have bred the impressive bulls and the graceful Andalusian horses for centuries.
  • Another good way of getting to know Cádiz is through its gastronomy. There are uncountable restaurants, seafood bars, taverns and ‘chiringuitos’ (beach stalls) where you will be able to taste all kinds of fish, seafood, cold meats, and desserts. You can either choose to enjoy our gastronomy in recognized restaurants or if you prefer the informal, why not try our typical ‘tapas’.
